At the Interboro meeting held on Sunday June 7 in Old Tappan the association voted to adopt new parade rules that will be effective for the 2009 Northern Valley Fire Chiefs Association parade.  The new rules now allocate the points for the Overall Award based on 25% each for apparatus, marching, uniform and color guard.  Marching catagories are now 8 to 16 and 17 +.  There must be at least 5 marchers and 3 members in a color guard to be considered.  Additionally, participating departments may now submit a fire prevention float for the float competition based on any fire prevention or fire safety theme.  Previously, floats were restricted to the NFPA annual theme.  The move was made to encourage more participation and expand the fire prevention message of the parade.
